Four Ways To Boost Your Creativity
“Creativity is the way I share my soul with the world.” – Brene Brown
When you consider that your creativity is as unique as your own DNA or fingerprint, it makes sense to do all you can to keep it in peak condition. But how do we boost our creativity? Better yet, how can we keep it moving forwards on an ongoing basis? Team Veritas has a few ideas…
Challenge yourself
It’s often said that creativity is like a muscle, stretch it, work it and by all means, rest it when necessary. Knowing when to do all three is crucial, especially when it comes to staying on top of your creative game. That being said, challenging yourself is a good way to up your own creativity because you’re essentially forcing yourself to think beyond your normal thought processes. This leads to different outcomes than what you might be used to, which is normally when creative growth unfolds.
Unplug regularly
Sometimes, we have to disconnect in order to reconnect. Downing your “tools” and your tech in favour of switching off is a must to prevent creative burnout. Instead of burning the candle at both ends, why not take some time out to do some relaxing activities? Reading, walking, meditating or even journaling are ideal ways to keep your mind active without overstimulating it. Much like sleep for the body, a little snooze for your creativity can really recharge the batteries.
Surround yourself with the right people
“Creativity is contagious. Pass it on.” – Albert Einstein.
As it turns out, one of the world’s brightest minds was on to something. It’s why you should always aim to spend time with creatives who inspire you to strive for more creatively. Consider who you admire, who you might learn from and best of all, someone whose company you enjoy. Healthy relationships can foster creativity due to the positive feelings that they trigger. Feel-good hormones like serotonin and dopamine are by-products of time spent with the right people. Pay close attention to who makes you feel like a better version of yourself and seize the chance to grow with them. Learning through collaboration is key, especially when your creativity is concerned.
Ask for feedback
Whilst this one can feel a little scary at times, getting constructive criticism makes all the difference when ensuring your creative output is of the highest quality. Sure, you’re not always guaranteed to hear the things you want to but if you listen closely enough, you’ll be able to level up on the creativity front. Without feedback, how can we grow? So, welcome yours, make room for it at the table and allow it to influence your creativity in a positive way. After all, there’s more than one way of doing something. Exploring a few will allow you to choose the ones that really do work best for you.
